About Matt
As accounting and auditing standards become more and more complex, Matt leverages a powerful combination of in-depth knowledge and broad-based experience to advise clients and colleagues on their practical implementation. In addition to extensive experience with manufacturers and entities with significant international operations, Matt is a technical advisor for accounting and audit matters for multiple industries and CPA firms across the U.S.
He leads Barnes Dennig’s Manufacturing and Wholesale/Distribution practices and is a member of the firm’s employee benefit audit team; he also serves on the firm’s Assurance Quality Control Committee, where he works to ensure the firm delivers the highest quality assurance services.
The Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA) has selected Matt to serve on the organization’s Accounting and Auditing Committee, which provides recommendations on proposed accounting standard updates as well as implementation guidance to its members.
He’s a member of Allinial Global’s Accounting and Auditing Committee as well as a technical contributor to the AICPA’s Center for Plain English Accounting (CEPA). Matt is a frequent speaker on accounting and auditing topics for a range of industry organizations, including OSCPA’s CPE seminars.
During and after the pandemic, Matt worked tirelessly as a key leader of Barnes Dennig’s COVID-19 advisory team, rapidly becoming a trusted expert on the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) and the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC). Along with his teammates, he helped hundreds of businesses and non-profits with critically needed funds. Always on top of the latest trends, Matt is a valued resource for businesses when they need it most.
A graduate of Miami University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Matt also holds his Master’s in Business Administration from Xavier University. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensed in the state of Ohio, and he holds membership in the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA). Matt is the Board President for The New School Montessori, where he’s been a long-time passionate and involved volunteer.
