IRS Hosts Non-Employee Compensation Awareness Meetings

New for 2021 is Form 1099-NEC (Non-employee Compensation).  The IRS now requires exempt organizations to report non-employee compensation on the new Form 1099-NEC instead of Form 1099-MISC.  This is for payments totaling $600 or more to a nonemployee, such as an independent contractor.   Form 1099-NEC should be filed with the IRS and sent to non-employees by January 31, 2021.

To help with this transition, the Tax Exempt and Government Entities Division (TEGE) is offering a free Zoom awareness meeting on Thursday, January 14, 2021.

This meeting is designed to help exempt organizations understand the new Form 1099-NEC reporting requirements for the 2020 filing season.  Each session is limited to the first 950 participants.

Meeting Access Instructions – Thursday January 14th, 2021

Participants may also join via voice call using the following information:

Dial by your location and input the meeting ID when prompted:

  • +1 669 254 5252 US (San Jose)
  • +1 646 828 7666 US (New York)

The IRS is also accepting a limited number of questions.  Email TEGE.outreach@IRS.gov with the subject line “Pre-submitted questions for the Form 1099-NEC Awareness Day” and questions will be answered if time permits.
