About Matt
As accounting and auditing standards grow increasingly complex, Matt combines deep technical knowledge with broad experience to guide clients and colleagues in applying those standards effectively. He works extensively with manufacturers and organizations with international operations and also serves as a trusted technical advisor for CPA firms and businesses across the U.S.
At Barnes Dennig, Matt leads the Manufacturing and Wholesale/Distribution practices, is a member of the Employee Benefit Audit team, and serves on the firm’s Assurance Quality Control Committee. His expertise, collaborative approach, and problem-solving skills have earned him recognition as a go-to resource for clients and peers alike.
In April 2025, Matt was named to Forbes’ Best-in-State CPAs List, recognizing his technical excellence and commitment to the profession. This same year, he was appointed Chair of the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA) Accounting and Auditing Committee for a three-year term starting in the 2025–2026 fiscal year. In this role, he helps guide OSCPA’s response to evolving accounting and assurance standards and communicates key developments to members.
Matt also contributes to the profession through his involvement with Allinial Global’s Accounting and Auditing Committee and as a technical contributor to the AICPA’s Center for Plain English Accounting (CPEA). A frequent speaker on accounting and auditing topics, he has presented at numerous industry events, including OSCPA’s continuing education programs.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Matt served as a key leader of Barnes Dennig’s advisory team, quickly becoming a trusted authority on the Payroll Protection Program (PPP) and the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC). His efforts helped hundreds of businesses and non-profits access critical funding during a time of extraordinary need.
Matt earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Miami University and his MBA from Xavier University. He is a licensed CPA in Ohio and a long-standing member of the OSCPA. In addition to his professional achievements, Matt is Board President of The New School Montessori, where he has been a dedicated volunteer for many years.
