This week’s issue of Becoming a Strategic Partner features an essay on sales by Brian Tracy.
He suggests employing the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and love your neighbor as yourself.” In a sales setting, it means thoroughly understanding your customer’s circumstances as well as your product or service, and caring enough about them to help them make a decision that is truly in their best interest.
Tracy offers two steps to immediately put the Golden Rule into action:
First, resolve today to sell to your customers with the same honesty, empathy and understanding that you would like them to use in selling to you.
Second, take time to genuinely care about your customers, their individual needs and their unique situations. Make people feel important and they will make you feel important.
