Melissa has been serving the employees and clients of Barnes Dennig for over 15 years. As Marketing Director for a Top 200 CPA Firm, she innovates and orchestrates practice growth initiatives that develop the firm’s skilled professionals as well as to market accounting, tax and advisory services to existing and new clients, and to engage employees with the fun, close-knit culture of the firm.
Melissa supports corporate communications, business development and market research specific to the results-oriented initiatives of the firm. Her primary responsibilities include the oversight of the long-standing seminar series designed to educate the community on the key trends in their respective industries. She was instrumental in developing the firm’s trademark industry-specific compensation and benchmarking reports.
As the creative force behind the Barnes Dennig Emerging Professionals Group, she focuses on the unique development of young professionals as it pertains to their personal and professional growth. She also co-champions the Young Professionals and Marketing Communities of Practice within Allinial Global (formerly PKF) – Barnes Dennig’s member association. She is a founding member of Barnes Dennig’s steering committee for the firm’s Women’s Growth & Development Initiative, which won an Association for Accounting Marketing (AAM) Achievement Award in 2010 as an outstanding internal firm program. Her efforts with these two key initiatives has fueled Barnes Dennig’s repeat appearances on the Top Workplace in Cincinnati list.
As long-time member of AAM she’s volunteered in different capacities including a recurring column from 2006 to 2010 in MarkeTrends (now Growth Strategies), co-chaired the 2014 Summit: Roots of Success Summit in Orlando, FL held jointly with the AICPA and AAA and chaired the 2016 Summit: inNEWvation in New Orleans, LA. The association bestowed her with the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2016. She was recently appointed to AAM’s Board of Directors and is the board liaison to the Member Growth Committee.
Dedicated to her community, Melissa serves as a board member and Special Events Oversight Chair at Redwood – helping children and adults with disabilities achieve their highest potential. She was initially on the project team for Redwood as a member of the 2006 United Way’s BOLD Class. Additionally, she organizes the firm’s fundraising activities for ArtsWave and the United Way and quarterback’s the firm’s annual Community Outreach Day.
Melissa is a past cabinet member for the Cincinnati Business Courier’s BizWomen. She is a graduate of Mount St. Joseph University where she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration/Marketing and returns to speak to business students. In 2017, The Mount honored Melissa as a Future 5 Award Recipient – one of five outstanding alums who have excelled in their professions and provided service to their communities.
