Hume and Schmitt are Promoted to Manager at Barnes Dennig

CINCINNATI, OHIO – November 21, 2007 – Barnes, Dennig & Co., Ltd., certified public accountants and business advisors, has recently promoted the following individuals to Manager:

Paula L. Hume, CPA

Paula provides tax advisory services to Barnes Dennig’s not-for-profit clients.  In her role as Manager / Tax Specialist, she focuses on the continually changing tax compliance issues of the non-profit sector. These issues range from assisting clients with the initial start up of their organization to more complex issues including unrelated business income. Her career spans 13 years which also includes experience with a large, international accounting firm where she researched tax issues and reviewed partnership and multi-state S corporation returns.

Annually, Paula conducts the Barnes Dennig Not-For-Profit Tax Update seminar which concentrates on the important tax issues that face non-profit organizations.  She received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the Gatton College of Business and Economics at the University of Kentucky.  She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Paula resides in Florence, KY and volunteers with Stephens Elementary in Burlington, KY.

Jeff Schmitt, CPA

Jeff provides audit and tax services to Barnes Dennig’s clients with special focus in the construction and real estate industries.  He has worked on and led client service projects to provide audit, tax, and advisory services to the firm’s clients. 

Jeff’s expertise includes navigating contractor financial statements, helping clients delve into the numbers and understanding the complexities of the construction industry – which helps provide solid advice and greater knowledge to his clients. He has received specialized training in the construction industry and has achieved the following certifications: Construction Industry Technician (CIT) and Construction Document Specialist (CDS).

Additionally, his experiences range from working closely with a number of clients to identify accounting improvements and streamline processes and systems to operating as an outsourced Controller for a local contractor. He also has vast experience performing employee benefit plan audits and assisting clients with Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.

Jeff received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Cincinnati.  He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Ohio Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Jeff resides in Wilder, KY.
