Women-owned businesses face challenges that many of their competitors do not, but they can also benefit from incentives that their competitors do not. The latter point is worth noting for any company that is majority owned by women or can be restructured to be majority-owned and managed by women.

The federal government is mandated to award at least five percent of all federal contracts to women-owned businesses. In February 2011, it launched the Women-Owned Small Business Contract Program in order to increase access to those contracts. Click here for more details on the program.
