Director

John has 30 years of tax strategy experience, facilitating projects of varying complexity for clients of all sizes and entity types. He has considerable experience with New Markets Tax Credits, alternative energy credits and other investment credits. He leads Barnes Dennig’s tax consulting practice.

He has worked with privately held and publicly traded companies, domestic and international, from start-up to more than $1 billion in assets. As such, he can offer unique insights to a local company and is particularly valuable to a local company with a thirst for growth.

Prior to joining Barnes Dennig, John spent 15 years as a national tax partner for a large, international accounting firm. He has advised companies on deal structuring, due diligence, tax consulting and tax controversy representation. He has worked with private-equity firms on tax-efficient acquisitions and sales, and he is an authority on pass-through entities, including Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs).

John’s articles have appeared in technical and industry journals, and he is a frequent source of insight for the mainstream media. He also serves on the board of directors of three privately held companies. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from Wright State University and a Masters in Taxation from the University of Cincinnati.
