On February 20th, Barnes Dennig connected CFOs of local mental health organizations to share knowledge and ideas, problem solve current issues and promote the success of their nonprofits. This was one of Barnes Dennig’s reoccurring luncheons, with previous topics including productivity measurement and enhancement techniques & treasury management.
Hot Topics for Mental Health Organizations
- ICD-10 code implementation hurdles for the October 1, 2014 revised deadline. Among these include training and upgrade costs as well as vendor software limitations.
- Revenue impact of the recent cold weather spell on client service encounters. With the number of school days lost, organizations have no way to recoup their sunk compensation costs if schools are passing on makeup days.
- Continued changes to the Health Home state program for individuals with serious and persistent mental illness. The discussion on Medicaid reimbursement rates had an overwhelming conclusion that the costs to support this type of program far outweigh the potential revenue stream. While many organizations were eager to implement and have spent considerable time and expense preparing, the excitement has subsided as the program terms become less appealing.
Our next luncheon will be held on June 5, 2014. Do you have a topic you would like to pose to the group? Please contact Rachael Cruse at firstname.lastname@example.org.
